Chinese Flying Lanterns Safety
FLYING LANTERNS SAFETY
Each Flying Lantern is individually wrapped to keep them dry and contain full instructions (in English) on how to use them safely. Please refer to the instructions supplied with each Flying Lantern before use - instructions are supplied below as a brief overview.
Used correctly according to the instructions, Sky Lanterns can be used safely and are very impressive. Sky Lanterns will fly for up to 20 minutes and can reach up to 1 mile high. Flying Lanterns are made from biodegradable materials & are flame retardant.
HOW TO USE SKY LANTERNS (please read the full instructions supplied with each lantern)
* Must only be used only on very calm wind conditions
* Check the direction of the wind to ensure there are no obstacles.
* Carefully remove from the packaging.
* Fully unfold the lantern & extend upright holding it at both top & bottom.
* Light the fuel cell fully holding the lantern gently.
* Continue to hold the lantern until it becomes full (approx 1 minute).
* When you feel the lantern is rising on its own - release.
Safety First!
* Used properly these lanterns should be safe yet full responsibility is borne by the
user of the lantern.
* Unsuitable for use by children under 16 years of age.
* Use only in very calm wind conditions.
* Product should not be used when wind speed is above 5mph.
* Must be used over 5 miles from airports.
* Do not use near dry crops or other materials that may catch fire.
* Keep a fire extinguisher or bucket of water nearby.
* If the lanterns paper does catch fire extinguish & discard.
* Only use in open spaces.
* It is safer & easier for two people to launch these lanterns.
If you are near the coast, it is a good idea to notify local coast guard or life boat service that you will be launching flying lanterns, as sky lanterns have sometimes been mistaken for hot-air balloons in distress when floating out to sea.
